Summary

Discover the magical world of Carnival of the Animals in this musical reimagining of this celebrated suite for children – push the button in each breathtaking scene to hear the vivid sound of an orchestra playing from Camille Saint-Saëns' score。

One day, two brothers discover a magical animal kingdom behind their bookcase。 They are greeted by the royal lion with his shaggy mane; ask for directions from an old lonely turtle; take a ride on some lumbering elephants; topple a skeleton of dinosaur bones; and swim among a school of shimmering fish。 If only they could take them all home。。。

The book includes extracts from 'The Swan', 'Aquarium', 'Fossils', and 'Finale' (From Disney's Fantasia) along with a totally new story to link the pieces together。

As you and your little one journey through the magical scenes, you will press the buttons to hear 10 excerpts from the suite’s music。 At the back of the book, find a short biography of the composer, Camille Saint-Saëns, with details about his composition of Carnival of the Animals。 Next to this, you can replay the musical excerpts and, for each of them, read a discussion of the instruments, rhythms and musical techniques that make them so powerful。 A glossary defines musical terms。

The Story Orchestra series brings classical music to life for children through gorgeously illustrated retellings of classic ballet and program music stories paired with 10-second sound clips of orchestras playing from their musical scores。

Manufacturer's note: please pull the white tab out of the back of the book before use。 Sound buttons require a firm push in exact location to work, which may be hard for young children。 All sound clips are 10 seconds long。

A fun book to learn about classical music。

Two brothers walk through a secret door into a land of talking animals。 This may be the only Story Orchestra book where my kids like the story more than the music。

Gorgeous book。 Illustrations are amazing, and the music beautiful。 The recorded music actually sounds good, like music, not the tinny sounds that often come out of the books with the "press the button for the sound" feature。What I love most is how this book is a short little music and listening appreciation class。 At the end there are little explanations for each movement, information about the composer, and some musical vocabulary linked to the specific musical piece, Carnival of the Animals。I Gorgeous book。 Illustrations are amazing, and the music beautiful。 The recorded music actually sounds good, like music, not the tinny sounds that often come out of the books with the "press the button for the sound" feature。What I love most is how this book is a short little music and listening appreciation class。 At the end there are little explanations for each movement, information about the composer, and some musical vocabulary linked to the specific musical piece, Carnival of the Animals。I hope to purchase other books in this series to share with my children。 。。。more

'Spectacularly amazing。 Rich in so many dimensions from the music to the illustrations, from the words to the texture of the book。 A sensory delight。'This is a totally stunning book from this wonderful series - The Story Orchestra。 The illustrations make the music jump out of the page as the beautiful melody of each part of Carnival of the Animals is played alongside the story。 I love the section at the back that explains a little about each piece。 My daughter has loved these books since she was 'Spectacularly amazing。 Rich in so many dimensions from the music to the illustrations, from the words to the texture of the book。 A sensory delight。'This is a totally stunning book from this wonderful series - The Story Orchestra。 The illustrations make the music jump out of the page as the beautiful melody of each part of Carnival of the Animals is played alongside the story。 I love the section at the back that explains a little about each piece。 My daughter has loved these books since she was around 2 years old and now 4 it is so lovely to see her trying to consider which instrument is playing。 She adored the flutes in the Aquarium。 These are such good book for bedtime, but also wonderful for beginning classical music appreciation for children。 Magical! 。。。more

The art is gorgeous and the story is engaging, so I think that this book will really charm young readers。 Two brothers find a world packed with animal adventures behind their bookcase (jealous), and they visit a jungle, a coral reef, and even a dinosaur museum。 Each of their stops has a built in sound button that plays a quick burst of classical music, and I KNOW that tiny humans love listening to a musical book。 I definitely recommend this absolutely delightful book。Thank you to Quarto Books fo The art is gorgeous and the story is engaging, so I think that this book will really charm young readers。 Two brothers find a world packed with animal adventures behind their bookcase (jealous), and they visit a jungle, a coral reef, and even a dinosaur museum。 Each of their stops has a built in sound button that plays a quick burst of classical music, and I KNOW that tiny humans love listening to a musical book。 I definitely recommend this absolutely delightful book。Thank you to Quarto Books for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more
